Ventures Manager - Diageo Futures - Open to flexibility

This may be the most entrepreneurial role in Diageo. You will work with entrepreneurs who are disrupting the beverage alcohol industry by the creating new types of drinks, brands & business models. And you will work tech start-ups irreversibly changing how consumers discover, shop and experience our brands. All in service of helping Diageo get ahead of the big shifts unfolding around us.

The Futures Team is charged with imagining the future that Diageo will face – and more importantly helping the business respond to this – through developing new ideas and business models which will help Diageo continue to grow in this ever changing world.

This is a senior role charged with running two of the Futures Team’s flagship initiatives – Distill Ventures and Diageo Technology Ventures.

Distill Ventures is the world’s first incubator-accelerator that backs entrepreneurs to grow & sell the global spirits brands of the Future. Since 2013, Distill Ventures has committed over £30 million in funding to help spirits entrepreneurs go further, faster. Diageo Technology Ventures is to the world of tech entrepreneurship what Distill is to the world of spirits. Technology Ventures was established a year after Distill to help our business get ahead of digital disruption. Tech Ventures partners with and invests in start-ups with the potential to improve the discovery, shopping and experience of our brands.

Accountabilities:

  • Be the primary interface into Diageo for Distill Ventures
  • Manage new venture search including relationships with partners, consumer planning and business development
  • Deliver the plan excl, leading on all operational matters and ensuring seamless back office operation and governance
  • Manage future investment pipeline and financials
  • Shadow mentor/coach selected businesses
  • Set marketing KPIs and hold team to account on marketing plan
  • Budget management
  • Support delivery of Investment Boards
  • Ownership and accountability of key DTV partnerships across 4 strategic pillars: Future of Discovery, Commerce Everywhere, Linking Online to Offline, Personalisation at Scale
  • Lead piloting process with key markets to help brand teams test and learn with emerging marketing tech
  • Lead quarterly Steering Committee meetings in Europe to deliver strategic partnerships and investments
  • Facilitating tech investments: deliver compelling business cases & operations to help Diageo invest in emerging tech companies (working with BD + functions)
  • Grow DTV’s external presence and reputation to attract the best tech opportunities

To be successful in the role requires:

  • Strong relationship building and network: proven track record of building relationships internally across the business with tangible examples of working alongside and influencing senior stakeholders internally and externally
  • Commercial acumen & expertise – able to leverage commercial skills in deal assessment, negotiations and contract development
  • Operational navigator – proven ability to drive traction and embed new thinking (and programmes) within Diageo – can demonstrate understanding of how to leverage your network, work within the Diageo system and drive momentum behind your vision
  • Comfortable working in the unknown and ambiguous – pioneering new thinking and avenues for Diageo without feeling intimidated or lost
  • Passion and understanding for the entrepreneur
  • Enjoys working autonomously – self-starter who feels empowered by space and freedom
