Context

The Environmental Coordinator role is positioned within Diageo’s International Supply Centre (ISC) Governance Team reporting to the ISC Environment Manager. The successful candidate will provide support and guidance on sustainability issues for the ISC sites (over 60 manufacturing, warehousing & office sites across UK, Ireland & Italy); creating the framework to deliver the environmental agenda aligned to our strategic goals.

This will be done by establishing ruthless focus on our current ways of working and driving improvements across ISC. The Coordinator will work closely with the functional representatives from each of the sites within ISC to build excellent working relationships and similarly those in centralised environment & governance roles.

The environment co-ordinator will actively promote the core sustainability messages to support the delivery of an active and cohesive culture across the region.

Purpose of the Role

The purpose of this role is to develop and drive a sustainable business for ISC with emphasis on energy, waste, BOD and water usage reduction initiatives as well as to ensure regulatory compliance. 

For this role, this includes: 

  • Managing environment compliance schemes for centralised ISC returns, environment incident & non-conformance reporting and application of compliance schemes across ISC sites.
  • Co-ordinating the setting of environment targets to drive improvements at a site and ISC level.
  • Lead the required monthly, quarterly and annual environment data reporting for ISC, Diageo stakeholders and external sources.
  • Technical support to help identification of environment improvement opportunities for ISC sites and facilitate best practice sharing of initiatives.
  • Supporting the delivery of initiatives to drive the required culture, including employee education and engagement.
  • Drive the Sustainable Packaging agenda, reporting and improvements for ISC
  • Communicating environment successes throughout ISC.
  • Subject matter expert for internal and external environment audits across ISC sites
  • Managing the set-up of ISC energy & environment group meetings.
  • Environment functional expert to support internal and external assurance audits as required.

Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Science, engineering or operations qualified with at least 2 – 3 year environmental experience in food or brewing/spirits industry preferred.
  • Working knowledge of energy/environment compliance schemes would be advantageous.
  • Environmental professional, like IEMA, or willing to work towards equivalent professional qualifications.
  • Must have good interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Must be approachable and able to provide clear and concise information.
  • Strong numerical skills with great presentation & experienced computer user.
  • Good at networking to establish excellent relationships at all levels.
