IT Project Manager - Research and Development Clinical Systems - Open to flexibility

Basic qualifications: 

  • Experience in pharmaceuticals research and development; preferably in the Clinical domain
  • Degree in IT  (other degrees will be considered)
  • Experience of managing projects across the full software development lifecycle, from planning through to support transition and early life support
  • Effective communication and negotiation skills for a wide variety of audiences, including senior management
  • Well developed leadership skills and demonstrated ability to influence, develop and communicate a compelling vision, strategy and plans for projects
  • Demonstrated matrix management and a clear ability to work effectively in a cross functional team environment including vendor and offshore teams:
  1. Ability to manage by influence rather than direct line control
  2. Ability to inspire, enable and support project teams to deliver their best
  3. Ability to promote teamwork

Preferred qualifications: 

  • PMP/Prince II certification
  • Experience delivering validated IT solutions
  • Experience of Waterfall and Agile techniques
  • Working knowledge of ITIL
  • Experience and practical knowledge of business change management, Lean/Six sigma, or equivalent process improvement methodologies

WHAT IS THE PURPOSE OF THIS ROLE?

  • This role provides leadership, management and direction to multi-disciplinary members of project teams in the delivery of R&D IT Clinical Systems projects within agreed scope, cost, schedule, and quality parameters
  • The incumbent must apply project management approaches and techniques to ensure the consistent delivery of high quality services and/or solutions that meet client requirements and ensure that project goals are accomplished in line with business objectives
  • Work with customer facing group to define the project objectives, scope and plans. In execution, ensure project deliverables support business goals and enable benefits delivery.

WHAT WILL YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES BE?

  • Manages and coordinates projects for the Clinical service area from inception to closure to deliver the agreed business benefits within agreed time, cost, scope and quality 
  • Collates and communicates the timelines for a project
  • Manages project plan, budget, risks and issues
  • Deliver all aspects of the project scope and also ensures delivery of infrastructure and business activities. 
  • Ensures adequate resourcing of Project Team Members, adequate project funding and Sponsor commitment before undertaking each stage of the project
  • Works with Programme Managers to establish the required project resources in aligned service area, i.e. secure IT resources in line with overall R&D IT resourcing strategy
  • When part of a larger Programme, coordinates with other Project Managers for success of the overall  Programme
  • Manages and co-ordinates third party relationships (e.g. Off-shore, Software vendors, etc)
  • Provides guidance to Project Teams within aligned service area and ensures that project teams follow methodologies & standards consistent with GSK IT and regulatory standards
  • Ensures the project solution is designed with supportability as key criteria – to ensure that the system is stable, supportable and cost effective during its support and maintenance phase
  • Ensures that the knowledge base (information and people) is developed and maintained, ensuring effective transition of knowledge into the support organisation
  • Build close working relationships with stakeholders and relevant business contacts to ensure i) confidence is built and maintained, ii) all stakeholders are informed and engaged during the project, and iii) the solution supports R&D initiatives and delivers maximum benefit.
  • Build effective working relationships with all internal and external organisations involved in the delivery of the project and wider environment.
