About Innovations for Learning
Innovations for Learning (IFL) is a charity that uses technology to improve the early literacy skills of young pupils. IFL's flagship programme (which originated in the USA) is used by schools in London, Leeds and Bradford. A helpful introduction to TutorMate is this brief video.
TutorMate is a unique online reading tutoring programme which pairs disadvantaged, struggling six year old readers with reading support volunteers who are working professionals from businesses like John Lewis, Mastercard, KPMG and Salesforce. The volunteer ask is very focused: readers commit 30 minutes a week to read with a child using a bespoke digital platform with a voice connection. TutorMate is the perfect volunteering opportunity for those who want to make a direct impact but find it hard to leave the office.
From a school perspective, TutorMate can provide direct, meaningful literacy support for up to 10 pupils per class. It is particularly suitable for communities where it might be challenging to find parents and other volunteers who can commit to physically visiting schools to boost reading.
Struggling young readers are falling behind. Support our crowdfunding appeal to provide online tutors for disadvantaged children.
