This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in changing how London reflects is diverse history and culture by becoming a member of the Mayor’s Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm. 

The Mayor of London has created the Commission to help ensure London’s achievements and diversity are reflected across our public spaces, memorials, sculpture, street signs, place names, murals and public art. 

You will be one of 15 independent members, covering a range of experiences, including cultural and public history, visual art, community leadership, public engagement, development and planning.

As a Commission member, you will work alongside co-chairs Justine Simons OBE, Deputy Mayor for Culture and Creative Industries, and Dr Debbie Weekes-Bernard, Deputy Mayor for Social Integration, Social Mobility and Community Engagement, to shape the future of London’s places.

You will be instrumental in catalysing the discussion and debate about what legacies should be celebrated and how, including approaches to contested heritage. 

You will contribute to setting direction and policy aimed at establishing best practice and standards, embedding a commitment to greater representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic communities, women, LGTBQ+ and disabled groups, as well as a range of social and economic backgrounds in development across the capital. 

You will provide vital leadership, championing London’s diverse communities, and you will help set out a distinct programme of work, which began with the installation of the first statue of a woman, Millicent Fawcett, on Parliament Square.
