This role requires you to lead the provision of legal management and support to the Digital Transformation Team and digital marketing activities. This is in order to deliver brilliant execution to enable achievement of their commercial and technical objectives of transforming how Diageo engages with and in the Digital Environment, setting global standards and providing support to the markets for implementation!
The disparate and non-global approach Diageo has taken to digital to date means that making the shift to global standards and ways of working will be particularly challenging. Ensuring compliance in an ever evolving market place with new ways of operating and communicating require the person in role to be fleet of foot and to deal with ambiguity confidently. Managing the competing interests of many markets and stakeholders will also add complexity to this part of this role.

Responsibilities include:

  • Identifying and assessing legal and reputational risks associated with Marketing, Media and eCommerce, with a focus on new ways of marketing, eCommerce / mobile (mCommerce) strategies, emerging technologies, new media platforms, new models for procuring marketing content, engaging digital and tech start-ups, information protection and privacy;
  • Advising on the development of digital campaigns, app development and content creation, acquisition, licensing and distribution (including crowdsourcing, UGC and brand publishing) and data mining and analytics activities
  • Advising on, supporting and developing the consolidated, converging IT platforms through which the organisation does business working closely with Counsel, IS Outsourcing
  • Negotiating and drafting commercial agreements with global media and advertising agencies, global media partners, digital service providers and start-ups working closely with Counsel, Demand Procurement
  • Providing advice to the business online consumer law issues: Data protection; Website terms and conditions; Commercial contracts; and
  • Advising on the legal requirements of digital marketing, including the development of digital campaigns, apps and consumer-generated programmes; cross-border activity; and the development, acquisition, licensing and distribution of digital content

Global Reserve:
In light of the focus and success of the Reserve business globally, the need for a legal resource to manage the legal complexities of this business channel across multiple markets is now recognised. This role will be responsible for the provision of guidance and advice to various senior members of the Global Reserve team as they formulate new and innovative strategies and projects and then co-ordinating with regional counsel globally to ensure consistent, compliant roll out.

Experience Required:
Commercial Legal Experience

  • Significant experience of working in or with media and/or technology businesses with significant consumer facing social media activity and content including eCommerce and extensive knowledge of data privacy laws.
  • Proven track record of managing complex legal transactions across borders and dealing effectively with external legal service partners in multiple jurisdictions; extensive experience of complex commercial contract negotiations, strong commercial legal skills and an awareness of IP related matters and sensitivity to differing local requirements across jursdictions.

 Essential Qualifications

  • Senior lawyer admitted in a one of the UK jurisdictions or another common law jurisdiction, with extensive commercial in-house experience gained in working in the digital media arena and working cross border
