Building Officer - Open to flexible-working

Reports to: Centre & HR Manager

CLPE Scale: A13 – A17 (£21,543 - £24,259)

Hours: Full Time – 10.00am to 6.30pm



To be responsible for the management, security, repair and general maintenance of the CLPE Building.


  • To provide reliable and effective site care.
  • Ensure the building is secure at all times.
  • Responding to emergency calls outside normal working hours, emergency key holder.
  • Responsible for all plant on site – ensuring it meeting the requirements and it fit for purpose.
  • Providing all minor maintenance onsite to include all small works.
  • Liaising with all site contractors – snagging of work carried out as necessary.
  • To be responsible for all room set-up. This includes activities in relation to day-letting of rooms in the CLPE building
  • To ensure the building meets Health and Safety Requirements, identifying and reporting on all aspects of Health and Safety issues on the site to the Centre/HR Manager
  • Managing an effective fire policy and recordkeeping procedures to ensure that all staff and visitors are evacuated safely.
  • Fire alarm testing and monthly – keeping accurate records of tests and any faults found.
  • PAT testing all electrical equipment - yearly
  • Monitor and manage in conjunction with the Centre/HR Manager all contracts for repair, maintenance and security of the site, including grounds maintenance
  • Supervise the letting activities of CLPE car-parks.
  • Maintenance in sub-let area as instructed.
  • Banking and mailing activities as required.
  • Maintenance of all outside area – including pruning all vegetation.


  • A knowledge of the services required to provide effective care services in a professional development centre
  • A knowledge of a range of building and building maintenance procedures
  • A knowledge of technical and site care equipment of heating, electrical and mechanical plant and other services
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety implications of premises management
  • Health and safety qualification preferable
  • Computer literate- email, excel and word


  • Experience of undertaking responsibilities and multi-skilled work for the care and maintenance of premises
  • Experience of dealing with the public and clients
  • Experience of working without direct supervision


  • To be reliable and punctual in day to day working
  • To be able to communicate clearly both orally and in writing
  • To be pro-active – recognising works that need to be carried.
  • To have numerical skills commensurate with the requirements of the job description
  • Able to establish and maintain excellent working relationships with staff and clients
  • The ability to undertake a wide range of minor maintenance activities
