Economist/Manager - open to flexible working
Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.
What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.
Our economist community plays a vital role in ensuring that decisions on energy policy and regulation are evidence based and support better outcomes for energy consumers, help to mitigate climate change and ensure security of supply. As part of our Retail Monitoring and Price Cap Implementation team you will monitor new developments and trends in the retail energy market, report on competition indicators and evaluate the impact of our policies and regulation. You will also help to assess the effectiveness of the price cap, which is reviewed every six months, and ensure that fluctuations in underlying costs of supplying energy are factored into these reviews.
It’s likely that you are degree qualified in a relevant subject with a strong analytical focus, or that you have practical professional experienced in a highly analysis-focussed role, that involves both working with both quantitative and qualitative data. You should have strong communication skills (in writing and in person) including the ability to present and simplify complex subject matter for different audiences. Previous experience of working with a diverse group of stakeholders is also important.
