Our finance team provides valuable support to the business leaders of Grant Thornton, giving them the information, they need to monitor the firm’s results and to achieve its strategy for growth. In your role as payroll executive, you will share the responsibility for the monthly payroll tasks alongside the other executives in the team , reporting into the team leader. The team’s goal is to ensure all of our people are paid accurately and on time by providing provide a high quality client service to the firm’s 4,500 employees. You will provide detailed accurate responses to employees and stakeholders queries and be involved with ad-hoc project work and reporting requirements which will provide real challenge.

Making quality second nature.  This means doing what’s right even when no one’s looking. The work that you will do has a major impact on our clients and our firm. We pride ourselves on the high-level standards we have for the work that we do.  To do this you will have a detailed payroll knowledge and be confident in providing advice and query resolutions to your clients (the firm’s employees) and stakeholders.

Own your own work.  You will manage your own workload to ensure that all assigned tasks are completed accurately, on time and to a high standard. You will quickly grasp, understand, and apply the firm’s policies when calculating and advising on payrolls and will of course keep yourself up to date with statutory legislation.  

Be a part of a team. You will be expected to provide support to junior members of the team and will be expected to work flexibly during peak times of the month in order that the team’s goal of paying people accurately and on time is met.

Take responsibility.  You will have experience of spotting opportunities to improve current processes and reporting. You will work with our stakeholders to ensure the team are delivering the best possible service, where improvements are identified you will move these forward working with the relevant teams to get this done.

Build your brand.  As well as the day job you will have the opportunity to get involved with process improvements and ad-hoc project work, driving forward improvements and adding value will allow you to demonstrate and wide range of skills.

The minimum criteria

  • You will be CIPP qualified
  • You will have a working knowledge of payroll and ideally have experience of Workday systems
  • You will have experience of working on large scale payrolls and within a large team
  • You will be able to demonstrate process improvements

  • You will have strong Excel skills as well as being commercially focused with the ability to deliver innovative solutions
  • You will be confident in using payroll technology solutions and ideally have experience of Workday solutions
