This is a temporary vacancy, expected to last at least 12 months. This means internal candidates will be considered on secondment, and external candidates will be considered for the role as a Fixed Term Contract.

This vacancy is for a technical expert on packaging components used at GSK Maidenhead, supporting operations on technical issues concerning packaging components, requiring close work with suppliers, other sites, and central functions to enable a variety of actions. These will primarily include troubleshooting packaging issues and continuous improving components. You will identify, understand and mitigate risks associated with packaging components by leading cross functional risk assessments, and will work across sites to share knowledge and provide network support.

Crucially, we are currently implementing a wide range of sustainability projects which will involve technical packaging changes. You will play a key role in identifying solutions and suppliers, testing and trialing materials, and then subsequently leading the implementation of changes on site. There are further sustainability projects in the pipeline in this area, leading us to hope that this role could be extended to meet the continuing need.

Maidenhead is a flagship site, responsible for two of GSK's "power brands". This role plays an important role in the consumer healthcare business and it's ability to branch off into the new company as planned. As such, you will be trusted to take hold of significant projects and to run with them, acting as the SME for technical packaging. Due to the speed of production, this is a very fast-moving site with many dynamic and varied opportunities to learn, develop your skills and build up an excellent professional network and expertise base.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • To create & drive concepts in packaging that will deliver against the commercial plan for the business. 
  • Provide support to all manufacturing areas on filling & packing issues & process improvements.
  • Ensure packaging trials of new and proposed materials contribute positively to performance and efficiency of the production lines.
  • To manage supplier relationships and ensure compliance with industry and business standards. 
  • Manage project timelines and highlight project clashes with the senior project sponsors, report metrics and deliverables to key stakeholders.
  • Ensure project issues and risks are managed and actions are completed to resolve issues around implementation of NPI and strategic projects.
  • Ensure Technical Change process is followed for the introduction and transfer of products.
  • Own the production of documents for factory trials and arrange for raw materials and resources available for trials.
  • Responsible for ensuring site trial process is adhered to.
  • Responsible for performing Level 1 Self Inspections within the department.
  • Attend/complete compliance training e.g. GMP, SOP, as specified in individual learning plans.
  • To ensure that GMP, Quality, Health & Safety processes are adhered to in all aspects of role.
  • Lead Technical Risk Assessments for packaging operations

About You:

To truly excel in this role will require technical skills, as listed, but also considerable personal skills. The position plays a key communication role, conversing and interacting with a real range of colleague from operators through to more senior partners such as the technical director on site. You will need to use these relationships and this networking skill to lead and deliver complicated projects, driving them forward and tying together all the included elements - multitasking with a delivery focus to ensure results. This is a very close knit and supportive team, both at Maidenhead and more remotely, so strong teamworking and a willingness to help and support others will be essential to the success of your department.

Why You?

Required Qualifications and experience:

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant technical discipline, or with significant related experience
  • Hands on experience working in Technical Packaging or Artwork
  • Experience in FMCG, or alternatively at a Technical Packaging specialist
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes

Additional Skills:

  • Experience in GMP/Pharma manufacturing
  • Demonstrated experience and success in project management
  • Additional relevant qualifications, such as those in lean/six sigma
