Collections Assistant - Hackney Archives

Part-time (21.6 hours), fixed term until October 2017 (subject to maternity leave duration)

£21,330 - £23,376 (Scale 4) pro rata plus local government pension & benefits

Hackney Archives is in the process of preparing our extensive image collection for future migration to a suitable Digital Asset Management System and to facilitate greater re-use and accessibility of the images. We require a Collections Assistant, under the guidance of Hackney Archives staff to assist with documentation and data input duties, visitor services, the local studies library and reprographic and research enquiries. This will include supporting users in the search room, collections retrieval and cataloguing.

This role is suitable for someone pursuing a career in Archives/Museum collections management, and is an excellent opportunity to help Hackney Archives improve online access to one its most heavily-used collections. The broader purpose of the role is to support collections information and access that helps people to explore and share in Hackney’s rich and diverse past.

Set in a purpose built location, Hackney Archives’ search room and dedicated stores are pivotal in supporting staff with their professional stewardships of the historic collections, however you will need to have a head for heights due to the tall racking!

We are looking for somebody who is able to start as soon as possible, working Tues – Thurs to cover the days Hackney Archives is open to the public.
