We currently have an opportunity within our Low Carbon Regulated Asset Base (RAB) team which makes an essential contribution to supporting decarbonisation of the UK energy system. The team works across a range of policy areas: advising Government on regulatory and strategic issues; developing new approaches to financing large scale energy investment; regulating new energy technologies and services; and creating policies that support our decarbonisation ambitions. You can expect to be leading on subject matter that is at the very forefront of the energy transition. You will be asked to lead the development of policy thinking and delivery and take primary responsibility for briefing senior management, strategic planning for the team’s work, and line managing. You’ll have a key personal role to play in external engagement and working to build consensus with stakeholders – sometimes on contentious issues.

We’d like to hear from people with experience of working with complex subject matter to formulate policy recommendations, as well as the ability to identify and mitigate risk as part of the policy development process. You’ll need strong communication skills – in person and in writing, that enable you to represent Ofgem in external meetings, and to produce accurate and accessible reports and policy papers. You should have a proven track record of working across multiple priorities, taking the initiative to accelerate and influence progress, and co-ordinating your own workload and that of colleagues to meet competing deadlines. It’s likely that you have a degree qualification, or that you can demonstrate equivalent expertise through practical professional experience in your career to date.
