Lead Architect - Payments - Open to flexibility

The Group Payments Architecture function within Lloyds Banking Group is preparing for significant changes in the UK payments landscape, to meet regulatory demand from PSD2/Open Banking, Ring Fence Banking, RTGS replacement, PSR PSF Strategy Forum and Brexit. This will require knowledge of payment processing and next generation technologies.

Joining our Architecture, Methodology & Innovation (AM&I) team as a Lead Architect, you'll be working with business risk colleagues and IT delivery teams to set the direction of technology roadmaps to underpin the Payments vision and Target Operating Model (TOM). You'll play a major role shaping a large investment portfolio by leading the solution architecture for the Payments Domain introducing innovative technology to transform the business operating model.

You will need to work collaboratively with our business colleagues on shaping technology as well as with fellow architects across AM&I and solution architects, designers and engineers in our large business aligned IT teams. Therefore, clear communication both within your team and to external stakeholders will be key to your success to deliver the right business outcome and to ensure that their needs are fully represented.

Key accountabilities will include:

  • Lead the definition of the solution architecture for large high risk projects and programmes; through expert architectural skills translate high level business requirements into technology architectures that align to Group IT's strategic architecture.
  • Direct and control large specialist teams to undertake the definition of the solution architecture; identifying and managing the architectural risks and assumptions that are inevitable in the early stages of major change initiatives.
  • Manage senior business stakeholders to secure strong engagement for the solution and ensure that the delivery of the project aligns to longer term strategic roadmaps for the division and Group IT.
  • Work as part of the programme management team on large programmes, governing and shaping the delivery of projects.
  • Work closely with external suppliers to ensure solution makes the best use of technology and meets requirements.
  • Lead collaborative working with other areas within AM&I to ensure that all solutions are complete, operable, conform to business processes and meet the business needs with the agreed quality of service.
  • Maintain a forward looking perspective on emerging technology developments and their relevance to both Business and Technology Strategies.
  • Designing solutions and contributing to roadmaps to address complex business challenges across a broad portfolio of work and then communicating them clearly both within your team and to external stakeholders.
  • Providing technical direction to the architects/designers/engineers in the business aligned IT teams on architecture and design issues; helping them adopt Cloud and Agile technologies and processes.

You will have a comprehensive understanding of Solutions Architecture and will be able to specify and design large or complex systems. Additionally you'll select appropriate design standards, methods and tools, consistent with agreed enterprise and solution architectures and ensure that they are applied effectively. And you'll take responsibility for the planning, sharing and publishing of solution architectures within the Group; maintaining and communicating the programme strategy and devising and implementing appropriate frameworks and document policies for programmes.
Experience in the UK Payments schemes (BACS, CHAPS, FPS, FCM, Cash) domain is essential and a deep understanding of all facets of the domain would be extremely advantageous.

You will need to have a broad range of technical skills with experience in all standard architecture domains but specifically application, integration and information architecture. Working with vendor products is also key so knowledge of leading payments systems prevention vendors would be advantageous.

* Payments Sanctions Screening
* Payments Migration
* Retail and Commercial accounting
