The Biopharm (BP) Unit is at the heart of GSKs ambition to deliver antibody and other biopharmaceutical medicines. The BP Unit has the remit to design and optimize biopharmaceuticals from Target to Candidate Molecule exploiting cutting edge technology and delivering diverse lead panels from which high-quality candidates can be selected and seamlessly transferred to Biopharmaceutical Product Development and Supply.

Within BP the Antibody Selections (AS) group has responsibility for identifying high quality hits and leads from library and in vivo technologies and deliver an important contribution to GSKs Biopharm pipeline. The AS team uses multiple antibody discovery platforms (yeast display, in-vivo immunisation and phage display) to generate diverse panels of antibodies to therapeutic targets, which are expressed and triaged using a variety of characterisation assays.

We also work with external groups to deliver monoclonal antibody reagents for therapeutic and tool applications. In addition, the Antibody Selections group has accountability for developing and implementing new antibody discovery technologies to enable discovery increasingly diverse antibody panels and generation of therapeutic candidates against challenging targets.

The Antibody Selections group has an exciting opening for a highly skilled and experienced scientist. You will be part of the in-vivo antibody discovery team in AS and will utilise your skills and experience to enable the discovery of high-quality antibodies using B-cell screening. Using our human antibody transgenic mouse, you will be involved in the design and execution of antibody discovery campaigns for therapeutic targets. In addition, you will look for opportunities to further optimise this process from immunisation to B-cell screening to improve quantity and quality of the antigen specific B-cells that are isolated.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Scientific leadership and impact through a lab-based role.
  • Accountable for delivery of high-quality hits and leads to program teams using our in vivo antibody discovery platforms
  • Optimisation of staining, isolation and FACS sorting of antigen specific B-cells
  • Work effectively within multidisciplinary teams
  • Maintaining high quality and accurate records of data in GSK databases and electronic lab notebooks.
  • Generate and interpret process performance data from in-vivo antibody discovery campaigns
  • Clear and concise presentations of results to peers and project teams.

Why you?

Basic Qualifications:

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:

  • Expert with extensive experience in the staining and fluorescence activated cell sorting (FACS) of mouse immune cells using multiple colours
  • Deep Knowledge of murine B-cell biology and immunology for isolation of optimal cell populations for antigen specific B-cell sorting
  • A PhD in relevant subjects (murine immunology, murine B-cell biology, in-vivo antibody discovery) or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams and will display excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Previous experience of sorting murine antigen specific B cells isolation would be an advantage.
  • Additional experience of using microfluidics systems for isolating and sorting of antigen specific B-cells would be an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications:

If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:

  • Knowledge of single B cell PCR and V region cloning/engineering and expression would be advantageous.
