Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.

What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

The energy sector is undergoing an unprecedented and far-reaching transformation to support the journey to a net-zero future, and Ofgem will play a central role in the transition to this goal. As a Project Lead you’ll play a key role in projects that support the transition to net zero, while minimising the cost to energy consumers. You’ll work closely with colleagues in our regulatory teams to identify and evaluate options to support this agenda and develop initiatives with government and with industry participants. You’ll be part of a team leading on the themes of heat decarbonisation and electric vehicles and you’ll have the opportunity to be a key advisor on these key areas (heat decarbonisation being the priority in the coming year).

It’s likely that you will already have an understanding of the energy sector, or experience of policy / regulatory work. Highly developed communication skills (in writing and in person) will be important, as well as the ability to work at pace in a highly collaborative working environment. You should be able to engage with strategic concepts and ideas, and see how your contribution and work fits into the bigger picture. You should already be experienced in building positive relationships with stakeholders, which enable you to advise and influence effectively. You should be someone who works well in a team environment, while taking personal responsibility. And you’ll need good analytical abilities that enable you to work with complex subject matter and simplify this for different audiences. It’s likely that you are educated to degree level, or that you can demonstrate equivalent expertise through practical, professional experience.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.

Ofgem can offer you a comprehensive benefits package, which includes:

  • Up to 30 days’ annual leave
  • Excellent training and development opportunities
  • The opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits
  • Flexible working hours and family friendly policies
