November 2021 will see the UK host the UN climate negotiations – an event of global significance that will attract the eyes of the world, and bring together key decision makers from across the globe who can influence climate outcomes. So this is a role with a difference – a genuine once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You will lead Ofgem’s work on the evaluation of the potential for a global regulators’ peer-to-peer network that can share best practice and thinking to support our ambitions of net zero and climate compatible economic growth. You’ll play an involved role in the design and delivery of a series of Ofgem-hosted events at the climate negotiations, identifying and engaging with global regulatory leaders who can play a part, and identifying content that will excite, provoke and engage. It’s a chance to make the most out of this incredibly important gathering, both in terms of the event itself, but also utilising it as a catalyst for longer-term innovation and international collaboration.
Relationship building skills will be central to this role and previous experience in developing international networks would definitely be beneficial. You’ll need to be able to operate at a highly strategic level, engaging and influencing senior stakeholders. It’s important that you can work independently, identifying and pursuing opportunities; but also that you can communicate and collaborate well to achieve shared objectives. You should bring a highly developed awareness of the perspectives and priorities of others to identify synergies and shared goals, as well as being sensitive to points of difference. It’s likely that you have already worked with government bodies in emerging economies, or in energy regulation.
