Senior Director, Toxicology, Open to flexible working

We are seeking a dynamic and experienced leader to provide scientific vision, direction and management to our newly formed global Toxicology group in our Non-Clinical Safety (NCS) team. In this exciting opportunity you will be accountable for strategic and operational leadership of a new global group specialising in modern regulated and non-regulated toxicology science and deliverables for research and development projects.
You will be responsible for establishing the global group, shaping scientific strategy, managing resource utilisation and budget, ensuring best practices, and accelerating development of a team outstanding scientists. With your team you will use your expertise in toxicology to deliver regulatory and investigative toxicology studies across species, modalities and routes of administration to identify and solve safety problems. You will also partner with various business partners and with Contract Research Organisations to drive innovative solutions and ensure the quality and performance of study delivery in accordance with regulatory guidelines and project requirements.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provide single point of accountability for toxicology deliverables to project teams worldwide throughout Research, Development, Oncology, Global Health and ViiV Healthcare.
- Design, implement and execute a coordinated global strategy to deliver toxicology support for R&D Projects through standard and bespoke work packages investigating human-relevant target organ risks. The work includes planning, conducting and interpreting findings from preclinical studies, integration of drug disposition information and advising on safety hazard/risk assessment and plans to mitigate those risks.
- Define, refine, and implement standards and peer review to ensure data and appropriate reports are of high quality, meet GLP requirements, and build confidence in GSK's integrity and scientific credibility with internal partners, external reviewers and Regulatory Authorities.
- Optimize cycle times and costs for both internal and CRO toxicology work packages and establish a global process to monitor the efficiency of how and where work packages are completed.
- Learn from historical data to identify critical insights that lead to innovation of toxicology strategies and designs.
- Promote external networks and influence through key industry groups, scientific consortia and associated regulatory activities in the specialized safety testing area.
- Ensure development of scientists to maintain a highly motivated, productive and innovative science platform that builds on best practices across sites and related-disciplines to continuously improve toxicology strategies and tactics. Implement and maintain strategic workforce planning to define project demand- workforce capacity analysis in order to enable a responsive, capable workforce.
- As a member of the Non-Clinical Safety Leadership Team, make a full contribution to resolving operational issues and to the development of future NCS strategy and its implementation.
- Ensure compliance with GSK Values, SOPs and Policies, GLP, and data integrity, safety and animal welfare guidelines.

We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- BSc in Life Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or Toxicology.
- Experience leading a global group responsible for delivering project support in toxicology, investigative toxicology or related discipline, including conduct of regulatory and investigative studies internally and with CRO partners.
- Extensive knowledge of Pharmacology, Toxicology, and/or other related biological science, and ability to apply their experience to drug discovery and development.
- Strong experience advising on toxicology strategies, designing in vivo investigative and regulatory safety / toxicology studies, and the ability to contextualise the study results for both nonclinical and clinical situations.
- Track record of managing complex technical, scientific and operational activities and in leading, developing and motivating teams.
- Strong external profile and key opinion leadership.
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
- PhD in Toxicology, Pharmacology, and/or other related biological science, in a drug discovery and development environment.
- Strong leadership skills demonstrating vision and strategy and effective leadership of change.
- Ability to work routinely across boundaries and establish cross functional matrix collaborations and teams.
- Ability to manage budgets and resources.
- Ability to coach/mentor, develop and performance manage staff.
