Senior Manager - Design Standards, Open to flexibility

The Transformation Programme is one of the largest programmes in the Bank and a key vehicle for the Bank to accomplish its vision and become a pioneer in the way digital technologies and experiences service our customers across channels.

The Design Standards Senior Manager is responsible for the management of the Design Standards team, responsible for the generation, adoption and maintenance of our Unified Design Framework. The framework underpins the direction of high-quality and consistent design across all projects in the Bank, with a key focus on UX Design Standards, Visual Design Standards, Editorial Standards and associated design patterns and code artefacts. The framework also supports the principles of atomic design and our approach to how to promote sustainable and high-quality design.

The role includes establishing best practices, efficient processes and effective communication and tracking mechanisms internally within the Standards team, to the wider Design Studio team and to the rest of the business. Oversight should be provided to the quality assurance and controlled merge practices relative to baseline UI Specs, as well as system analysis to promote automated functions where possible as well as version control. This function should also identify opportunities for collective design thinking and is responsible for the CX Design Guild forum, where all CX designers from across the business, including external agency partners, come together regularly to exchange knowledge, ideate, share best practice, and promote collective decision-making.

Your accountabilities will include:

  • Maintaining and updating design style guides and standards documentation across all brands, with a key focus on UI toolkits, our core design language approach and atomic design principles
  • Maintaining and updating design standards guidelines and associated materials with careful consideration of component/modular design practices
  • Directional and actionable brand strategy, relative to visual style guides and standards
  • Design pattern review processes and connection across all project areas, in conjunction with the Engineering and CX Design teams
  • Overall responsibility for the adoption, evolution and maintenance of our Unified Design Framework, as well as key stakeholder relationships across the Bank - Project Leads, the Engineering team, external agency partners, etc.
  • Industrialisation protocols/toolchains in partnership with the Engineering, Customer Journey Transformation and other project teams
  • Leading the CX Design Guild forum, including strategic inputs and outcomes
  • UI Spec sign-off process in conjunction with QA and UX Design teams
  • Operational process and best practice in conjunction with our Governance and Control team

And you'll lead, motivate and develop team members to create a high performing team; performing line management responsibilities - performance reviews, team meetings and 1-1s.
