Lambeth is the second largest inner London Borough with a vibrant and diverse population. 145 languages are spoken by families across the borough with a population that has grown by 26% in the past 12 years.

We have a strong partnership with our schools who share our commitment to ensuring that our children and young people make safe, healthy choices about their lifestyles. As part of that commitment we are appointing a Prevent Education Officer for a one year appointment (subject to Home Office funding review at the end of Year 1).

The Prevent Strategy - is part of Contest, the Government's Counter Terrorism Strategy. The aim of Prevent is to stop people becoming terrorists or supporting terrorism by providing support to vulnerable people, sectors and institutions where there are risks of radicalisation. We need to respond to tackle all forms of terrorism - including both far right and Islamist inspired threats.

The role of the Prevent Education Officer is one which will see you supporting the delivery of the 'Prevent Strategy' locally as part of Lambeth’s Education Safeguarding Team.

We are seeking an exceptional candidate for this high profile role. You need to have a thorough understanding of the Prevent Strategy and the duties that this places on the Local Authority.

You will be working with schools and education establishments across all key stages and with education personnel to help them met the requirements of the Prevent legal duty and to increase young people's resilience to terrorism. You need to be politically astute and able to work with a wide range of partner organisations and stakeholders. You will have demonstrable, excellent communication, engagement and influencing skills, including the delivery of training.

You will need to undergo enhanced security checks prior to appointment and be prepared to undergo Home Office SC clearance and Police checks.
