Risk and Compliance Officer and MLRO, 4-5 days per week 

Flagstone Investment Management Ltd is an authorised and regulated fintech business providing a proprietary technology platform that enables its clients to conveniently manage their cash deposits across a range of counterparty banks in order to maximise their interest income and minimise their risk.

The objective for this role is to lead the Risk and Compliance function for the firm, taking responsibility for both the CF10 and CF11 roles. Compliance, and specifically the efficient and robust application of initial and on-going AML, KYC and SOW processes are critical for our success and this person will be in part measured against their ability to help us streamline those processes whilst ensuring the firm stays fully compliant with its regulatory obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

Reporting to one of two Managing Partners at Flagstone, the Compliance Director will have the following responsibilities:

  • Oversee the CDD/KYC/AML/CTF/ABC policies and procedures and act as Money Laundering Reporting Officer (MLRO);
  • Work with the business to develop compliance procedures and controls, and provide commercially-orientated compliance advice;
  • Meetings with the firm’s partner banks to give comfort on Flagstone’s risk and compliance procedures and assist the Managing Partners in onboarding new panel banks;
  • Ensure compliance with Data Protection legislation;
  • Development, management and execution of the compliance monitoring programme;
  • Development and management of the risk management framework;
  • Sign off on financial promotions
  • Develop and provide training for all staff on Compliance, and if required, other matters.
  • To be responsible (with the Managing Partners where necessary) for regulatory reporting, i.e. GABRIEL reports.
  • To liaise and co-ordinate with business on the company’s responsibilities with regards to FATCA, CRS and CDOT directives.
  • Ongoing close review of all legislative, regulatory and corporate governance developments or changes that might affect the company and its operations.
  • Assist the Managing Partners with the recruitment and take on of new staff, including pre -employment screening processes, and induction of new staff.
  • Opportunities available to be involved in other aspects of the business as it grows

Suitable Background and Experience:

This role will suit an individual who is happy to work in a results-orientated business and understands that from time to time flexibility is an important quality. We are searching for a candidate that enjoys working in a small company environment (we are currently a team of 18 with plans to grow to c. 30 by 2018) where they can have a great deal of responsibility but also be happy to get involved in the detail and work as part of a team. As the individual sought will have overall responsibility for the oversight of the Compliance/AML framework they need to be comfortable with being accountable and being depended upon to deliver.

The successful candidate is likely to be able to demonstrate the following:

  • 5+ years’ experience with compliance function of another regulated financial services business, preference would be banking or asset management (other industries considered);
  • Strong knowledge of the FCA Money Laundering section of the System and Controls Sourcebook, Joint Money Laundering Steering Group Guidance and other relevant financial crime legislation, including the Bribery Act;
  • Experience as a CF10/CF11 or would suit someone who has not yet taken on a CF10/CF11 role but who would like to step up to this level;
  • Experience at influencing the business at a senior level;
  • Excellent influencing and negotiating skills with ability to quickly build and maintain confidence and credibility with senior management and partner banks;
  • Excellent analytical, interpretation and problem solving skills;
  • Experience of providing risk and compliance oversight of the development of new technologies an advantage;
  • Capable of working independently and in a team environment.
