The role holder is a senior technology and business leader and strategist for the Global Tech organisation at GSK. The role holder will be an evangelist for the technology solutions and services offered by the Global Tech organisation. The individual will build relationships with business Tech leaders, understand the challenges and needs of the business, and provide strategic guidance & oversight to the technical teams to meet the needs of the business effectively. They will lead a virtual architecture function and be focused on the integration layer across all of Tech, driving strategy and execution. This will ensure a seamless and connected set of tech products across the Tech function. The leader will also research, prioritize, and experiment with emerging technology, increasing our thought capital to elevate our engagements with external innovators and educate business leadership.

Key Responsibilities

  • Setting the technology roadmap and direction for the enterprise
  • Govern the adoption of the GSK Tech technology standards and investments to adopt the standards
  • Develop and establish agreed enterprise architecture framework to help govern solutions development and investments leveraging SMEs and technical resources within all technology areas
  • Act as the technology and solutions advisor for the Tech LT, developing architecture to scale and validate emerging tech
  • Bring in emerging technologies relevant to meet the business need and keep the enterprise current and competitive in the industry, leading a set of prioritised, experiments across emerging tech which are fit for purpose
  • Perform research on emerging tech, by forming relationships with external innovators (CEO and CTOs), universities, and experimentation, identifying target business processes and systems which will benefit from the tech.
  • Provide oversight and govern technology & services investments to bring most value for GSK Tech and the enterprise
  • Responsible for providing due diligence and integration leadership for partnerships and acquisitions.
  • Responsible for developing strategic plan for GSK Tech external engagement (conferences, talks, memberships) and capturing and reporting relevant tech intelligence.
  • Leading the matrix, virtual, federated network of Domain Architects across GSK Tech

Experience Required

  • 15+ years of managing and operating infrastructure services
  • 5-7 years of management & technology consulting experience
  • Proven experience of managing & delivering large scale transformative technology programs like software defined data centers, Enterprise data solutions
  • 5+ years of experience in a global pharma and/or life sciences company
  • Good understanding of a breadth of technology areas, infrastructure, networking, data platforms, e-commerce platforms, Cloud solutions, open source technologies, database technologies, application development experience
  • Proven experience in developing and conducting large scale RFPs for services vendor selection and technology selection; Proven experience in vendor contract negotiations
  • Working experience knowledge of Agile methodologies, DevOps operating model, Architecture frameworks FEA, TOGAF.
  • Proven experience of business case development and ROI and TCO models
  • Experience in software engineering, at a leading cloud or technology SaaS company (CTO or equivalent)
  • Expert (with implementation experience) with latest emerging technology, big data, machine learning, mobile, API, sensors, IoT, blockchain.
  • Experience with architecture standards (e.g. TOGAF)
  • Experience with modern design techniques, including simulations and creative sessions to spark imagination and ideas
