Project Support Officer, Open to flexible working

We wish to appoint two Project Support Officers to provide support to specific projects and activities and the Institute as a whole. The roles will report to the Director of Finance and Resources and will work closely with management team members and project managers.  They will work as part of a team with other Project Support Officers, sharing responsibilities for administrative tasks and project activities to support the business. 

The Institute for Employment Studies (IES) is an independent, apolitical, centre of research and consultancy in employment policy and human resource issues. We work closely with employers in the manufacturing, service and public sectors, government departments, agencies, and professional and employee bodies. Based in Brighton, the Institute is a not-for-profit organisation (company limited by guarantee) and a registered charity with around 40 multidisciplinary staff. Our turnover is in the region of £3 million a year.

Job Description

The primary focus of the role will be to provide administrative support to research project managers throughout the duration of their projects which can range from a couple of days for a small piece of consultancy to up to five years for large policy evaluations.  One of the successful post-holders will be expected to attend the Institute’s London satellite office in Westminster for one day per week (travel costs reimbursed), where they will oversee the administration of that office, as well as providing general administrative support to the Brighton office.  The successful people will need to have at least two years’ solid administration experience. 

Pay and benefits

In addition to a salary of £20,462 - £22,782 (depending on skills and experience), we offer:

  • a salary supplement depending on the Institute’s financial performance;
  • a contributory career-average defined benefit pension scheme (USS), to which IES pays a monthly contribution of 18 per cent of basic salary and staff pay eight per cent; and
  • 39 days’ holiday per year for full-time staff made up of 27 days annual leave, plus Bank Holidays and four Institute closure days.

Working hours: our standard office hours are 9am to 5pm Monday–Friday. We will consider applicants seeking flexible working arrangements.
