Commercial Banking Litigation is part of the wider Group Litigation, Regulatory and Competition Community. It supports Commercial Banking businesses within the Group in relation to litigation and contentious regulatory matters. We're currently seeking an experienced Lawyer to join our London based team. This is a unique opportunity to form part of a high performing in-house litigation team, which provides quality litigation and contentious regulatory advice and support to a diverse business area in relation to complex and high value matters.

You'll have the opportunity to manage your own caseload within a supportive team environment and will provide pro-active, pragmatic, and commercially aware litigation and contentious regulatory advice to business colleagues. You'll also provide specialist legal support in the resolution of complex complaints from customers or regulatory or other bodies with potential litigious or regulatory impact, exercising sound judgment in recommending the implementation of risk mitigation strategies.

You'll work in conjunction with Senior Lawyers and the Head of Team to support strategic case management, 360 degree stakeholder briefings, instructing and managing external panel law firms, escalating issues as appropriate, and budgeting for legal spend on individual cases. You'll help identify and develop protocols and guidance notes to improve the efficiency of litigation and contentious regulatory management across Commercial Banking, working closely with other team members. You'll also have some opportunity to supervise and informally line manage more junior members of the team.

You'd be working closely with stakeholders at all levels and we'll expect you to have the communication skills needed to influence appropriately and advise at a senior business level.

You must have post-qualification litigation and contentious regulatory experience in a City law firm, working in the banking and financial services sector. Excellent understanding of dispute resolution with a good awareness of the financial and capital markets business areas, as well as restructuring, and contentious enforcement and insolvency processes is required. A sound appreciation of the regulatory frameworks, including those relating to lending and sales of products to corporate customers is essential. A current legal practising certificate or equivalent is required and prior in-house experience is desirable.
