Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.

What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

This is an ideal career opportunity for someone with professional experience as an electrical engineer working with Transmission Level Systems, the networks industry or supply chain. You’ll fulfil a key role in our regulation of onshore networks, providing engineering and policy support across Ofgem. Key areas of focus will include the implementation of RIIO-T2, considering regulation of networks, electricity network codes, the development of smart grids and more general network innovation. Your technical expertise will be essential to ensure Ofgem can effectively regulate the electricity network companies and that you can work with stakeholders to define, explain and influence the development of Ofgem’s position on particular issues.

Your experience of Electrical Transmission could involve a number of different activities such as: operations; system design & planning; network codes; smart grids and network innovation; asset management; or performance and quality of services. You should be conversant in the design or delivery of large capital projects and right now you could be working for a transmission company, an electricity generator, a transmission network operator or you could be working in a consultancy capacity.  Ideally you are already familiar with the key concepts of economic regulation. It’s important that you can establish positive working relationships with others and that you have the communication skills to bring technical subject matter to life for different audiences.

You’ll be part of a team that is split between our offices in London and Glasgow, and flexible or part-time working arrangements would be considered.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.
