Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply.

What we do matters: making a difference to people’s lives now, and for generations to come. We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

Interconnectors are undersea cables that connect Britain’s electricity system with neighbouring countries and Ofgem is responsible for the regulation of this essential component of the energy industry. We currently have two opportunities for people with strong analytical skills who can work with complex concepts to arrive at evidence-based policy recommendations. You’ll focus on one of two key areas: future interconnection policy where you will evaluate the effectiveness of current regulatory practice and ensure it adapts to meet the needs of a changing energy marketplace; or new interconnector regulation where you will work closely with interconnector developers as they progress through our regulatory regime. In either role you’ll draft briefing and consultation documents or formal recommendations on policies, assess the impact of current approaches, and consider the role that interconnection could play in the future energy system.

You’ll need to be able to work well in collaboration with others, applying a positive and flexible attitude to deal with fast changing resources and changing priorities. It’s important that you can work effectively on multiple projects, prioritising effectively to meet competing deadlines. You’ll offer proven experience of researching information, identifying crosscutting issues, risks and opportunities and arriving at appropriate recommendations. Strong communication skills (in writing and in person) will be essential in enabling you to distil and communicate complex subject matter for a range of audiences.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.
