Finance Director, Part time 2-3 days/wk

The Timewise Foundation is the UK’s leading change agent for flexible working and flexible hiring. 

We are looking for an experienced finance director, two to three days per week.

Reporting to the joint CEOs, you will demonstrate general commercial acumen ensuring an understanding of the business and its operations across each entity.  You will have overall control and responsibility for all financial aspects of the company strategy and are expected to contribute fully to its development, challenging assumptions and decision-making as appropriate and providing financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers. You will be a qualified (ACA/CIMA) ‘hands on’ finance professional, looking to play a key role in the strategic growth of this social enterprise.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

  • To control the financial needs of Timewise, a social enterprise, covering both funded and commercial business streams, from day to day activities through to its statutory and regulatory obligations
  • To support the joint CEOs and the Board in developing the business strategy and its implementation
  • To provide relevant and insightful financial analysis to support business drivers
  • To manage a team of finance professionals

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Control and manage all finance processes including:
  • Keeping financial control against current year budgets and forecasts
  • Oversee monthly management accounts to include monitoring of financial performance against budgets and forecasts
  • Oversee cashflow management and monthly review of balance sheets
  • Engage with budget holders on regular income pipeline reporting and ensuring revenue recognition in line with project delivery and contractual timelines
  • Oversee day to day financial matters including monthly payroll, pension reporting, payment authorisations, VAT returns and debtor control
  • Oversee engagement through year end audit and financial statement preparation, to include tax computations and all relevant filings
  • Prepare monthly board accounts and board reports for board meetings, forming a close working relationship with the board
  • Development of KPIs to support the growth strategy of the business
  • Undertake and present meaningful ad hoc financial analysis and recommend appropriate actions
  • Oversee next and outer years business modelling and budget setting process, including providing financial input to commercial proposals
  • Review commercial contracts, limited only to ensure comfort with financial clauses and requirements
  • Maintain investor reporting requirements including quarterly RPA reporting
  • Lead and develop the finance team
  • Ensure all financial practices are in line with relevant statutory regulations and legislation, evidencing suitable controls
  • Ultimate responsibility to ensure that the financial systems, policies and procedures are robust, compliant and support current business needs and future growth
  • Manage corporate finance policies, specific to the entities, regarding capital, debt, taxation, equity, disposals and acquisitions, as appropriate
  • Engagement with external HR advisor, as required, on specific HR matters, to support the management team

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Essential:

  • Qualified accountant (ACA/CIMA)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate effectively with finance and non-finance people including presentations to the Board
  • Good commercial acumen and ability to bring a commercial approach to the role
  • Analytical approach, not only to financials but to identify solutions, assess and improve processes and systems and to contribute to the overall business strategy
  • A self-starter, able to prioritise and manage multiple demands and deadlines
  • Ability to manage the day to day activities whilst looking to longer term objectives such as system or process improvements

Desirable:

  • Knowledge of financing and requirements within a social enterprise
  • Knowledge of Xero

KEY RELATIONSHIPS

  • The role holder will work closely with the joint CEOs of Timewise as well as the Commercial Director.  There will be a need to form effective working relationships with all budget holders as well as the Board.

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • The role is expected to be 2 to 3 days per week (to be negotiated), ideally with a bit of flexibility around days to fit in with business demands
  • The salary will be circa £60-65k FTE, dependent on skills and experience
  • You will be based at our office in central London
