VP and Head of Experimental Medicine and Immunomodulation, Galvani Bioelectronics
Galvani Bioelectronics is a "one of a kind" therapeutics R&D company formed in 2016 by GlaxoSmithKline and Verily Life Sciences to pioneer a new class of therapies for chronic disease through peripheral neuromodulation with mechanistic precision. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategically-minded, enterprise-building senior leader to take the helm of the company's experimental medicines efforts, building the clinical strategy across indications towards broad-reaching therapies, designing innovative feasibility studies to best test and unlock the therapeutic potential, ensuring patient safety throughout, and building out the Galvani clinical development organisation.
Immunomodulation is one priority area for Galvani, backed by strong pre-clinical and engineering progress and deep experience in the early clinical positioning and development of novel therapies for immune-mediated inflammatory diseases will be critical. You will take end-to-end responsibility for Galvani's pre-clinical and clinical pipeline in immunomodulation.
The role will report to the President of Galvani and you will be a central member of the Galvani Management Team. Taken together, this role and the organisation it will lead, will be pivotal in shaping and heralding in a new class of therapies, from bench to transformational patient benefits.
The Vice President and Head of Experimental Medicine and Immunomodulation will be the key architect, accountable for defining and developing strategy, obtaining and managing associated resources, and overall successful delivery.
Areas of accountability:
- Clinical strategy, including clinical input on therapeutic profiles across therapy areas, development planning and subsequent delivery towards reimbursable files
- Feasibility studies, including experimental design and study delivery
- Patient Safety, including expert input, peer review and assurance through the Galvani Patient Safety Board
Immunomodulation from early pre-clinical proof through to pivotal studies, including assuming leadership of substantial existing pre-clinical efforts and shaping indication expansion plans
Enterprise success, including portfolio, people, partnering, resourcing as a member of the Galvani Management Team
Key responsibilities by area
Build Galvani's clinical strategy across therapy areas
Articulate the vision and target patient population for each asset, incorporating appropriate patient, physician and payer insight
Develop target product profiles and clinical development plans, including target differentiated benefits vs. standard of care, patient stratification approaches, critical sequencing of evidence generation and clinical programme inflection points
Set direction and lead early clinical evaluation of Galvani therapeutic approaches and devices through feasibility studies
Develop innovative designs that allow early and data rich testing of therapeutic principles and critical side effects
Deliver feasibility testing through a series of small, data-rich studies, including joint issue resolution with the regulatory and the device engineering teams
As the risk owner accountable to the Galvani President and Board of Directors, ensure overall patient safety of study subjects
Ensure adequate expert input and peer review of Galvani's planned clinical studies, including scientific integrity and adequate consideration of patient welfare
Lead collection, review, and follow-up on clinical adverse events
Serve on the Galvani Patient Safety Board (chaired by the GSK CMO) for final assurance of patient safety
Act as key architect and senior leader for immunomodulation, accountable throughout the discovery and development stages.
Select and prioritise projects and programmes, including indication expansion approaches
Establish and deliver on a strategy for each asset that describes an efficient path to the clinic; iterate and modulate in response to experience, new data, and insights
Resource and matrix lead the programmes (directly or through direct reports; >£10M budget)
Lead delivery with clear go/no-go or acceleration decisions based on quality evidence
Partner with Business Development to facilitate alternative business strategies
Contribute across the company to enterprise success through being an active and impactful member of the Galvani Management Team
Provide clinical/medical leadership, advice, and guidance
Manage resources and capabilities across the Galvani portfolio of R&D programmes and partnerships as a senior leader with a strategic focus
Take joint responsibility for the talent and organisational development in Galvani, inspiring and influence colleagues towards value-drive, performance, and alignment
