This is a unique opportunity to work on innovative, high-profile policies and manage exciting, crosscutting projects across the Council from a strategic position.

You will think strategically and have the ability to work on multiple projects or programmes simultaneously, applying your transferable skills across a range of subjects. The Strategy and Change (S&C) service is a valued and crucial asset for the Council.

We are recruiting for multiple vacancies:

  1. Permanent policy and project management roles with scope to develop specialisms in particular areas, working on a number of areas within Strategy and Change.
  2. One-year fixed-term roles, focussing on the development of Camden’s Outcomes (policy development) approach and the next Mid-Term Financial Strategy (MTFS).

Successful applicants will gain high-level exposure to senior political and non-political leadership, and a strong understanding of the overall strategic direction of an ambitious and progressive local authority. There are people management opportunities, both indirectly when leading projects, and directly as a senior colleague in the Strategy and Change service. Post-holders will benefit from strong support for their career development, while growing their stakeholder management skills. They will have an opportunity to make a real difference, shaping key pieces of Camden’s work.

The Strategy and Change (S&C) function, which the successful applicants will be part of, provides strategy and change support across the breadth of the Council’s services, from housing to social care to digital innovation. The service leads on:

  • Providing strategic thinking to develop policy solutions for delivering key Camden Plan and financial strategy priorities, and responding to significant external policy change;
  • Ensuring the organisation delivers Camden Plan priorities through expert support to change activity, and robust and effective project and performance management;
  • Supporting the organisation to take an evidence-based approach to improvement, translating data into intelligence that informs decision-making.

You will be at the centre of the organisation as part of the Corporate Services Directorate, and will work closely with key Directors and Heads of Service in other divisions. You will be a strong oral and written communicator, with an analytical approach and a positive and proactive attitude to your work. You will also be able to solve challenging problems creatively, whilst using an evidence-based approach.

About You

The ideal candidate will have a number of core skills:

  • Ability to effectively use a wide evidence base to solve challenging problems, thinking innovatively and looking to the future
  • Ability to work with and influence a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Strong communication and report writing skills
  • Positive and proactive attitude to work
  • Experience of or interest in local government

In addition, we are looking for candidates with specialisms in one or more of the areas below:

  • Key local government policy areas, such as housing, education, health or social care;
  • Performance management; and
  • Project or programme management.
