Finance Manager (Freelance – approximately two days per month with flexibility)

Birth Companions is looking for a part-time Finance Manager, on average two days a month, with strong knowledge of charity accounting to oversee our finance function. We are looking for an experienced accountant with excellent communication skills, to work closely with our staff team and Treasurer to ensure that our financial controls, records, budgets and reports are clear, accurate and well presented.

Working mostly remotely but with regular meetings with the Director and other staff, we would expect you to tailor reports to the relevant stakeholders’ needs and meet all relevant deadlines set by staff, funders and trustees. You will also oversee the bookkeeping and co-ordinate the payroll for our small staff team, liaising with an external bureau, and prepare the figures for annual independent examination.

This is likely to be a freelance role which will sit alongside your other clients or commitments. Ideally you will be able to flex availability across the months to handle busier and quieter reporting periods.

We are a small charity supporting vulnerable women through the perinatal period in London and in Bronzefield and Peterborough prisons. We aim to address some of the many health and social inequalities facing the communities we work with, and in doing so, improve the outcomes of our service-users and their children. We believe that no woman should be isolated or unsupported during this crucial transition.

Through the work of our staff and trained volunteers we offer practical and emotional support before, during and after birth. We work in a woman-centred way that is flexible, non-judgemental and mindful, basing our support on what a woman tells us she needs. We are unique in our deep understanding of the needs of vulnerable women and in the special nature of our support which enables us, perhaps more than any other organisation, to support women facing severe and multiple disadvantage in the perinatal period.

Apply by submitting an up to date CV and a specific covering letter showing how you meet the job requirements as outlined in the full job description.
