GSK is looking for a Data Scientist, People Analytics Who are we?

People Analytics is a relatively new team for GSK, rapidly developing the People Analytics capability across the organization. Our purpose is to ensure strategic HR decisions at GSK are driven by facts. The team applies advanced analytical techniques to provide data driven insights on what really matters to employees and which human capital investments really drive business results. The team sits within the HR organization, in a dynamic, evolving environment.

Job Purpose

As a Data Scientist, you will analyze complex questions coming from both the business and HR. You will deliver meaningful insights, by diagnosing the business questions, creatively combining various data sources and applying the right models to answer some of the most challenging questions. At a very high level, a data scientist in our team:

  • Builds novel and innovative models using advanced analytics techniques, to solve meaningful business problems
  • Works with multi-disciplinary teams to ensure that models are translated into scalable data solutions

Key Responsibilities

The data scientists in our team play critical role in driving the People Analytics capability forward. We work on a variety of HR and business topics, delivering our insights to senior management. We have the ambition to develop scalable data products, to support management and employees to use our insights in the best possible way. Together with our product owners, data analists and data engineers, as part of our Agile way of working, you will:

  • Design, build, and maintain highly complex quantitative and analytical models to advise/drive strategic direction and/or improve business performance
  • Actively participate in all stages of model development from data collection, data quality control, model building, model validation, testing and calibration mentorship to business leadership standards solving business problems products and experiences
  • Develop model monitoring plan, monitor statistical model performance, and provide technical feedback
  • Work with interdisciplinary product teams to craft, develop, and optimize customer-impacting data solutions
  • Continually learn new analytical skills, techniques and tools to improve competitive advantage; participate in internal & external technology communities
  • Communicate technical subject matter clearly and concisely to audiences of various backgrounds
  • Provide mentorship to data analysts

Basic Qualifications

  • A PhD in technical field (e.g. related to Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, Computer Science, Economics, etc) OR
  • MS/BS degree and related experience in programming, software development, statistics and/or data science
  • Data science experience
  • Able to internalize business problems and to translate them into data solutions
  • Strong analytics skills: e.g. Descriptive statistical modeling and algorithms, Machine learning algorithms, Modeling dataset building, Optimization, Data visualization, Pattern, cluster, segmentation analysis
  • Proficiency in Python or R
  • Ability to learn additional tools or languages, e.g. SAP HANA, PowerBI, Git, SQL (or an SQL-like language)
  • Leadership skills and the ability to manage data analysts
  • The ability to successfully and optimally communicate to partners and diverse audiences
  • Experience in agile methodologies strongly preferred
