There are few jobs where you can make a real difference to the 2 million people who work in the UK Financial Services industry, the 40 million consumers of financial products and the stability of our economy as a whole. The FCA's vision is to make financial markets work well for consumers, to ensure they get a fair deal in financial services and that firms have the interests of their customers and the integrity of the market at the heart of how they run their business.

The FCA oversees conduct across the full span of the financial sector and they are now preparing to implement a new strategy that will sharpen their focus to face the regulatory challenges ahead.

The work of the Life Insurance and Financial Advice division has a significant impact on conduct in the life insurance and financial advice markets, and is integral to the FCA’s strategy as a whole. The division is responsible for developing and delivering the supervisory strategy for the long term savings sector, from product manufacture to distribution.

The role:

The Director of Life Insurance and Financial Advice leads the division and reports directly into the Executive Director responsible for Investment, Wholesale and Specialists Supervision.

  • Leading and motivating a large division, and working collaboratively across the FCA.
  • Participating in and contributing to the broader division and the wider FCA’s senior management team, helping shape and influence strategy and promoting and representing the FCA perspective both internally and externally.
  • Developing a strategy for supervising firms which prioritises resources according to the size and nature of the conduct risk.
  • Playing a significant role in delivering cross-FCA projects, to implement changes in regulation and maintain constructive and effective relationships with firms, trade bodies and consumer groups.

The candidate:

You will have:

  • Extensive experience of leadership and people management, including developing and motivating teams, embedding change, and raising standards.
  • Excellent relationship and stakeholder management skills with the ability to negotiate with and influence senior people.
  • Ideally, experience / knowledge of the regulatory environment and/or the life insurance and financial advice sectors.

Please note that the FCA is open to a flexible working arrangement, such as a job share.

The deadline for application is midnight, Monday 6 November.
