It’s an exciting time to be part of our Network Price Controls team, which is responsible for managing over £80bn of investment in gas and electricity networks over the next 10 years. We have just launched the second iteration of RIIO - Ofgem’s framework for setting price controls for network companies. It’s an essential tool in protecting the interests of consumers and working towards our net zero goals, while ensuring the industry still benefits from the investment required to ensure security of supply. Your specific area of focus will be on supporting the application of this regulatory regime electricity transmission network companies. You’ll undertake high quality and timely analysis to inform policy development and options for implementation. This will include quantitative and qualitative assessment of electricity transmission companies’ annual regulatory returns and reviewing companies’ investment proposals - to make recommendations on the cost allowances that the companies can recover from consumers, and the outputs they must deliver, under relevant RIIO-2 mechanisms.
Highly developed analytical skills are vital to this role: you should be comfortable working with both quantitative and qualitative data to make recommendations on policy outcomes. Proficiency in Excel will be a valuable skill in this context. Good communication skills are vital – whether that’s in person or in writing, and you should be keen to take the initiative in your work to meet competing deadlines for different priorities: thinking creatively and working efficiently to achieve this. Your background could be in a range of sectors, but any previous knowledge or experience of the energy networks sector would be a bonus.
