HEAD OF PROGRAMMES: 2-3 days a week, remote, c.£60k pro rata

Summary

Are you looking for the excitement and variety of startup life with the satisfaction of public service work?

Oxford Insights is a young advisory firm helping governments harness the latest developments in technology and leadership. We are currently growing and are looking to build our management team. As the first hire at this level beyond our founders, we are looking for you to show excellent judgement in finding and scoping work, as well as bringing your expertise to help shape the quality of what we do.

What we are looking for?

Maybe you have built your career in the public sector and are looking for something more entrepreneurial, maybe you have worked in a larger consultancy and looking for smaller projects with more operational freedom. The attributes we are looking for are:

  • Public service ethos - What unites our team is a passion to make governments work better; to understand the policy formulation process and how that gets translated operationally into better services for citizens. We want you to share that passion.

  • Integrity - We are looking for someone who will inspire (and deserve) the trust of those they deal with, whether that’s clients or the Oxford Insights team.

  • Judgement - As a senior member of the team you will be trusted to make operational and budget decisions. We will rely on your judgment to make the right tradeoffs when it comes to prioritising work, changing scope, protecting team morale, etc.

  • Humility - We are a very flat organisation, so whether you're the CEO or a junior consultant, we expect people to help out where necessary.

  • Excellent communicator - Great teamwork and great client work follow on from excellent communication. As a linchpin of the team you will have excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Collaborative - We prize our collegiate attitude - with clients as well as colleagues

We believe that the best teams are built on diversity. As a result, we welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and levels of experience. Foreign languages (especially Spanish) are a plus.

What will you be doing?

We are a small team so the role will be flexible, and it will evolve as we continue to grow. As a more senior post we will be looking for you to:

  • Scope, manage and deliver projects - You will be responsible for designing and delivering projects for public sector clients e.g. we have recently evaluated conditionality in IMF grants;

  • Manage and develop our team - We have a superb team of junior consultants and we expect you to act as a mentor to help them harness their potential;

  • Troubleshoot projects - Provide expert and experienced advice to help unblock projects for your colleagues;

  • Marshall resources - Make sure the right people are on the right projects and that they are able to strike the right work/life balance;

  • Manage client relationships - A lot of our work comes from repeat business and trusted relationships. We expect you to build and deepen those relationships over time;

  • Advocate - We expect our team to build the company’s profile, including through building your own profile and field speaking opportunities on our behalf; and

  • Write and edit reports -  either for publication or for a client.

What will we offer?

  • We are only a new company so we what we lack in a giant salary or a company car we more than make up for in:

  • Varied and interesting work helping governments perform better

  • Flexibility - work isn’t always 9-5 and life isn’t always 5-9, we operate a family first approach and encourage a co-designed approach to working patterns.

  • A great team filled with people who care about the world

  • Rapid development through a mix of formal courses, peer learning and coaching

  • Generous holiday allowance with your birthday off. We are closed over the Christmas break

If the company does well at the end of the year then we all share in the financial success.
