This is a great career move for someone who would like to be involved in some of the key policy questions and solutions that impact directly on energy consumers. In Ofgem’s retail policy team we work to protect and empower consumers through the development of policy and regulation and encouraging new approaches and business models within the energy retail sector. This is vital work in supporting key initiatives such as the transition to net zero, protecting vulnerable customers, and facilitating a well functioning and competitive energy market. Set against the context of considerable change in the energy sector you’ll consider whether our current policies and regulations are still fit for purpose and work with a wide range of stakeholders to consider potential changes to support our key aims.
You’ll need good analytical skills and it’s important that you are highly organised – so that you can research, prioritise, plan and schedule complex tasks and demonstrate problem-solving skills in order to meet agreed deadlines. And we expect that you will already have experience of research and gathering evidence to inform and develop policy. It’s a role where good communication skills are important – enabling you to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
