Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply. We are playing a vital part in accelerating the transition to Net Zero and a carbon neutral energy system - a goal that everyone wants to achieve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing your part in creating new energy solutions that are great for customers, and great for the environment.

We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding, where you can get involved in ground-breaking work. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

A student placement at Ofgem is a fantastic opportunity to see how your analytical thinking and insight can make a real difference to energy consumers, and our work to decarbonise our energy supply. We currently have an opportunity to be part of our Offshore Transmission Owner (OFTO) team, which works to regulate companies who deliver high voltage electricity infrastructure. Right now, we’re managing the tender process to appoint offshore transmission owners to operate over £5.7bn worth of infrastructure that will connect offshore wind farms to the main grid. So this is a chance to be involved in high profile, high value and complex policy work. It’s a great way to kick start your career.

You’ll help to influence and create policy and processes that support a more sustainable energy future. You can expect to be involved in producing policy proposals, co-ordinating tender processes, preparing information for future tenders and helping to achieve better value for energy consumers. You’ll have the chance to be involved in stakeholder engagement, and to develop your understanding of our work and how the energy sector functions.

It’s important that you are comfortable working with both quantitative and qualitative data and that you have a keen eye for detail. You should be highly motivated, keen to learn, and able to manage your time well in order to prioritise your workload. Good communication skills (in writing and in person) will be vital and you should be someone who can play their part within a team environment.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.
