Assistant Analyst ASD (Student Placement), Open to flexible working
Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply. We are playing a vital part in accelerating the transition to Net Zero and a carbon neutral energy system - a goal that everyone wants to achieve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing your part in creating new energy solutions that are great for customers, and great for the environment.
We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding, where you can get involved in ground-breaking work. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.
A student placement at Ofgem is a fantastic opportunity to see how your analytical thinking and insight can make a real difference to energy consumers, and our work to decarbonise our energy supply. We currently have an opportunity to be part of our Analytical Strategy and Development (ASD) team, which focuses on some of Ofgem’s key analytical work. Projects you could be involved in include assessing whether the price cap should be reviewed and evaluating the impact of Covid on energy suppliers. The team also works to measure the impact of Ofgem’s work on consumers and businesses. It’s varied and complex work that will allow you to develop your skills in stakeholder engagement and build your knowledge of the role of a regulatory body. It’s a great way to add hands-on professional experience to your CV.
You’ll be asked to contribute to policy analysis and evaluation, undertaking analysis on qualitative or quantitative data to ensure that policy recommendations are evidence-based. You’ll also work with economic models, checking their validity and highlighting any assumptions in comprehensive and insightful reporting.
It’s important that you are comfortable working with both quantitative and qualitative data and that you have a keen eye for detail. You should be highly motivated, keen to learn, and able to manage your time well in order to prioritise your workload. Good communication skills (in writing and in person) will be vital and you should be someone who can play their part within a team environment.
