Ofgem works on behalf of energy consumers to ensure that every household and business in the UK can rely on a safe, affordable and environmentally sustainable energy supply. We are playing a vital part in accelerating the transition to Net Zero and a carbon neutral energy system - a goal that everyone wants to achieve. Whatever your role, you’ll be playing your part in creating new energy solutions that are great for customers, and great for the environment.

We offer a diverse range of flexible working career opportunities: roles that are stimulating and rewarding, where you can get involved in ground-breaking work. And it’s important to us that we recruit from a wide range of professional and personal backgrounds – bringing different perspectives and experiences to our work.

A student placement at Ofgem is a fantastic opportunity to see how your analytical thinking and insight can make a real difference to energy consumers, and our work to decarbonise our energy supply. We currently have an opportunity to be part of our Retail Monitoring team, which monitors new developments and trends in the energy retail market to consider how they might impact on consumers and establish a sound evidence base for policy development. You can make a valuable contribution to this work – monitoring and reporting on competition and consumer protection indicators, and you can expect plenty of contact with industry stakeholders, consumer bodies and the wider Ofgem team. It’s a fantastic platform to build your understanding of the energy sector and develop your professional skills and experience.

We expect that you’ll currently be studying for a qualification in a relevant discipline – one that is numerical, analytical, energy or business related. In order to undertake effective market analysis , you’ll need to be comfortable working with quantitative data and really know your way around an Excel spreadsheet. Good communication skills (in writing and in person) will be vital and you should be someone who enjoys working within a team environment while taking personal responsibility for the quality of your own work.

Ofgem is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We embrace diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. All employment is decided on the basis of open and fair competition, merit and business need.
