As part of Ofgem’s Retail Compliance team you’ll work to ensure that energy retailers meet their obligations and deliver a great service to consumers. The areas we typically work on include investigating issues with customer service, switching, billing and seek consumer redress. You’ll gather and review intelligence from different sources to identify and investigate any potential areas of non-compliance and make recommendations on appropriate intervention activity. You can expect plenty of stakeholder engagement – you’ll have regular contact with energy companies and consumer groups. As well as reactive compliance work, you’ll also play a part in stakeholder engagement programmes, and be asked to contribute to specific projects and improvement initiatives.
It’s a role that will suit someone with good analytical skills, so that you can draw accurate conclusions from your investigations. It’s important that you have strong communication skills and that you can engage professionally (in writing and in person) with stakeholders at all levels. You should be well-organised with project management skills that enable you to prioritise your work to meet competing deadlines. Any previous experience in the energy industry or compliance work will be of value. You’ll be part of a sociable and friendly team, with plenty of scope for professional development and progression.
