Job Description Summary

We are a multi-disciplined Application Service and Change team and have a great career opportunity for a customer oriented Service Engineer.
Your main focus would be to help support the SWWS applications to ensure smooth running of the applications. As a technical SME you will champion the stable operation of our applications, identify and deliver opportunities to improve service, and ensure the appropriate technical rigor in the delivery of change initiatives to our multilayer, multi-vendor platform stack. Within our distributed stack you will work with our Engineering teams, Engineering Leads and Product Owners, to ensure our applications meet the needs of our customers and that system changes are delivered safely. Longer term you will identify, understand and analyse trends to reduce the number of incidents and risks.

As a technical SME you will demonstrate a desire to develop your skills and experience, create space to learn and collaborate, demonstrate resilience and adaptability, confidence and a desire to innovate and test new ideas. You will understand, embrace and be able to select with confidence the most appropriate tools and methods to support service. You will strive to build relationships across role communities, change teams and business areas to maximise opportunities for continuous improvement through shared learnings. Coaching others across the team to achieve delivery excellence is also a key part of the role.

Here's where you'll make a difference:

  • You'll play a key role in maintaining and advancing our system
  • Lead production incident investigation and resolution which will include who/when to engage wider teams
  • Identifying and implementing service optimisations
  • Informing and shaping the delivery and testing of system enhancements

What we need from you:

  • Experienced Application SME/Specialist
  • Strong analytical skills all to act as technical SME
  • Previous facilitation experience, coordinating multiple teams including third parties.
  • A good understanding of Code and configuration management practices
  • Demonstrate experience and understanding of a broad range of technologies including Unix/RHEL, JVM, WebSphere, SQL Server D/B, log extraction and interpretation, SSL/TLS/MASSL, batch scripting (eg. FTP scripting), Java, JS, Angular
  • Previous experience with tools including; Dynatrace, UrbanCode Deploy, Jira, Confluence, SharePoint, MS Office too
