The Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an Affordable Housing Development Coordinator to join our Housing Commissioning and Partnerships Team. The team acts as the primary point of contact for Private Registered Providers (PRPs - predominantly housing associations and co-ops) in the borough. The primary objective of this role is to maximise the provision of affordable housing in Camden by working closely with PRPs, developers, and colleagues in Planning as well as other Council departments, and thus demonstrate that Camden is an effective enabling authority.

About You

To be considered for this vacancy, you will have extensive experience of planning processes and of negotiating affordable housing elements in significant development sites. You will also have knowledge of evaluation tools for assessing viability of development schemes, of scheme development standards and of funding criteria. You will have a keen analytical eye, which will assist you when completing detailed observations on submitted planning applications.

The successful candidate will liaise with Planning and Legal colleagues and, where necessary, applicants to negotiate and finalise the relevant affordable housing/viability clauses within s106 agreements. In addition, you’ll be liaising with the Planning Policy Team, other Camden colleagues, PRP’s and the GLA on issues that affect the provision of affordable housing in the borough at a strategic level. You will help to identify ways of using Camden’s Affordable Housing Fund to increase numbers and/or improve affordability/accessibility of affordable housing on development schemes.

About Camden

Camden’s main offices are located in modern, award-winning offices at King’s Cross. You can expect an exceptional range of benefits including discounted access to the onsite leisure facilities with swimming pool, recognition and reward for high performance with progression and pay increases, flexible and agile working hours and access to a leading pension scheme.

Camden is proud to be the country’s first Timewise council and, as part of this accreditation, we work to help parents balance work with childcare. This fits in with our aim to be leaders in innovative, flexible and part-time working that allows for different patterns of care and for parents to share childcare responsibilities.
