Data Science & Engineering

At Deloitte, we are seeking new talent to join our multidisciplinary Data Science and Data Engineering team. Our goal is to help our clients to drive innovation and insight from their data, using cutting edge Data Science and Machine Learning techniques, and Digital Transformation.

We deliver this through a combination of:

  • Advanced Data Analytics & Visualisation — helping organisations understand and gain knowledge from their data
  • Innovative Solutions — engineering innovative A.I. and machine learning driven it'solutions from initial proof-of-concept to large scale production services.
  • Leveraging public cloud services, in particular Azure and AWS.
  • Business transformation — upskilling and transforming businesses so that they can continue to innovate and leverage advanced analytics and A.I. techniques in a self-sufficient and sustainable manner.

Potential candidates should have a passion for data, a strong background in either data science (including statistical analysis) or data engineering (e.g. relational and/or NoSQL databases), and a willingness to pick up new skills and work across a variety of projects with clients spanning multiple industries.

Candidates will be considered for Analyst to Manager grades based on experience.

Location: Your home office is in Belfast, but this client-facing role provides lots of opportunity for travel in the UK and overseas.

Work pattern: This is a permanent full-time role.

Your professional experience

Our consultants work in a variety of projects to solve clients' toughest data problems by combining industry experience, consulting and analytical skills to create a lasting impact.

Our projects and clients vary greatly and your responsibilities will differ based on your level of experience/skillset and the focus of the client engagement, but within our Analytics & Cognitive Belfast practice, your role is likely to some or all of the following:

Technical experience:

We are looking for candidates of all experience levels who are able to demonstrate skills and experience across some of the following areas.

Essential:

  • Experience in data extraction and manipulation in SQL
  • Programming skills in Python, R, or Java
  • Experience in manipulation, cleansing and analysis of structured and unstructured / semi-structured data (e.g. raw text, json, xml)
  • Effective communication skills - able to communicate technical knowledge to users and business stakeholders
  • Have obtained or are eligible for security clearance

Desirable:

Data Science & Analytics skills:

  • Statistical Analysis & Modelling
  • Predictive Modelling, Regression and Classification techniques
  • Deep learning tools and techniques
  • Computer vision and/or Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications
  • Data Visualisation (e.g. using Python, Tableau, R Shiny)
  • Hands on experience developing with relevant Python toolkits or R equivalents e.g. Jupyter Notebook, NumPy, pandas, Dask, Keras, TensorFlow

Data Engineering skills:

  • Knowledge of enterprise data architecture and data modelling
  • Relational database modelling including transactional systems and data warehousing
  • Big Data technologies, e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Hive
  • NoSQL databases e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra, Elasticsearch, Graph databases
  • Experience working with Unix command line and shell scripting
  • Cloud Architecture or Engineering experience with emphasis on data and analytics services
  • Relevant certifications in Microsoft Azure or AWS
  • Knowledge of test driven development, DevOps and CI/CD best practices
  • Hands-on experience with microservice architectures and containerisation (e.g. Docker and Kubernetes)
  • Experience developing and working with REST APIs
