Our Public Realm Division ensures that the London Borough of Hackney is clean, safe and accessible for all our residents, businesses and visitors. Our Strategy, Environmental Enforcement and Recycling team is responsible for our council waste strategy including recycling and local environmental quality to ensure we protect the local environment. This is a really exciting time to join our team, during a busy period, as we work towards our regional target of 50% recycling by 2030 and eliminating all avoidable waste of all kinds by 2050.
We are looking for two Support Assistants (Circular Economy) to help the Waste Prevention Officer and wider recycling team to implement the Council’s Waste and Recycling Strategy and support the development and delivery of key waste prevention and recycling initiatives.
The Support Assistants (Circular Economy) will act as the first point of contact for Library of Things, customers and to facilitate the effective use of the service; assist the Environmental Service Strategy in the administration, organisation, delivery and promotion of the waste and recycling services and waste minimisation activities; be key points of contact for our resident’s queries and will be required to investigate and resolve enquiries, and attend awareness raising events to engage with our local residents; and support the delivery of various projects and campaigns, and sometimes lead on smaller ones, to promote recycling and waste reduction.
We are seeking two candidates who are passionate about the environment and hold a strong desire to work within the waste and recycling sector. Your administration experience and communication skills coupled with your dedication to customer service will enable you to offer best solutions to our residents.
We are offering two part-time positions on a 12 month fixed term contract:
Role 1. Monday to Wednesday - 15.6 hours (some weekends required); and
Role 2. Thursday to Sunday – 20.4 hours.
