The charity Innovations for Learning (IFL) is seeking a highly motivated, flexible, proactive Programme Manager to support teachers to implement its unique, online reading support programme, TutorMate, in East Sussex schools.
36% of children from disadvantaged backgrounds leave English primary schools unable to read to the expected standard, and many children fall behind with reading simply because they lack the opportunity to practise. Covid school closures have deepened this problem. The TutorMate addresses this ‘literacy gap’ by using a bespoke internet platform to pair volunteer tutors from corporate organisations with struggling 5 to 7 year olds.
As Programme Manager you will support teachers to implement TutorMate in schools in Eastbourne, Hastings and Newhaven. You will train teachers and provide them with in-person support. You will ensure that the programme’s impact and benefit to disadvantaged pupils is maximised throughout the academic year. You will also be responsible for finding new schools to implement the programme as it expands.
You will be an excellent communicator who embraces innovation, enjoys problem-solving and is very comfortable with technology and data analysis. With superb organisational skills, you will have a genuine passion for ensuring all children can read.
This role is ideal for someone based within easy travelling distance of Eastbourne, Hastings and Newhaven who is looking for flexible work from a home base with access to a car to travel to visit schools frequently. The hours are 10-12 hours per week largely during the school day, predominantly in term-time. The successful applicant will need to have some flexibility to work additional hours during busy months, and conversely to work fewer hours during quieter periods of the year.
