Head of Operations, Part time 3-4 days/wk

Contract: Monday 25 June 2018 – Friday 31 August 2019

Part time: 3 – 4 full days per week (negotiable).

Location: Office based, London.

Please note, there may be a potential opportunity to continue with this role as part of a job share once the maternity cover has come to an end.

PinkNews is the world’s largest LGBT+ news publisher.

We are a small team running a very fast paced business with a big reach. We require an enthusiastic and organised individual to manage the operational side of the business on a maternity cover placement.

Purpose of role:

  • Overall responsibility for the operations and administration functions of the business ensuring the Employer’s operations run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Manage the HR function of the business.
  • Direct line management of the Operations and Events Coordinator
  • Project management of PinkNews events.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Recruitment and employee lifecycle
  • Performance management
  • Annual leave/ Sick Leave/ Compassionate Leave
  • Payroll

Project management of events:

  • PinkNews Summer Receptions
  • PinkNews Awards
  • LGBT Leaders
  • Lunch and Learns
  • Roundtable discussions

Other events might be confirmed during the year dependent on partnership opportunities.


  • Invoices- Raising invoices and checking when payment has been received/ asking the Operations and Events Coordinator to chase payment
  • Ad sales - Responding and drafting proposals for ad sale requests resulting in a revenue below £3000
  • Line management - manage the Operations and Events Coordinator jointly with the Head of Corporate Partnerships
  • Contracts-  read through contracts such as insurance documents, venue agreements, photographers services, rental agreements and check them out with our solicitor if needed before signing

About you

  • Essential: Strong administrative, verbal and written skills
  • Essential: Organised and confident to speak with all people at all levels
  • Essential: HR experience –has a CIPD qualification or 2 years + HR Generalist experience
  • Essential: Events experience - at least 2 years
  • Essential: Proactive with a can do and flexible/adaptable attitude
  • Essential: Team player
  • Desirable: Online/digital publication experience and general understanding of how advertising works
  • Belief in equality for all

Required experience:

  • HR: 2 years
  • Event Management: 2 years
