The Data Engineering team at Consumer Tech is a critical part of the end to end engineering practice we are creating for the company. In this role you will lead the team that will be centrally responsible for the development of all global data platform capability and focus on equipping the company with a highly capable, expansive and value-scalable data platform.

The role has a truly global scope and is accountable for providing a world class and competitively differentiating data platform for GSK. It is a senior role for a true technologist and data engineering leader to make a real impact for the new company.

As well as being a very strong engineering team leader, you will also be a practicing hands on software & data engineer, so that you can fully lead your team with a high degree of technical authority. You will be highly comfortable with modern data engineering practices and implementing very high levels of automation will be your default position.

Your deep skills and technical fluency in this specialist area will help to equip the company with a data technology platform which supports the growth ambitions of the business and delivers a competitive advantage through data technology.

This is a rewarding and challenging technical role that requires deep knowledge and expertise to drive and deliver a data platform to support the Consumer Business strategy. You will work with a highly skilled team of pears and use your specialist knowledge to produce optimised designs and clear content to those teams to follow.

You will naturally & seamlessly partner with your peers in platform engineering, and communicate & align across the broader technology organisation, including infrastructure groups, innovation groups, product development groups, the security engineering organisation & the Enterprise Architecture Function.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Data Engineering team for the company to deliver world class data capability to the company.
  • Implement extremely high levels of data platform automation (infrastructure and software) to support the required levels of operational stability and scalability.
  • Use your very strong & specialised data engineering skills to contribute to and lead your team from a position of strong technical authority.
  • Lead your team to co-create with peers & deliver a world-class Data Platform, consistent with a business that has significant growth aspirations and a competitive intent to maximise value from technology.
  • Be an inspiring leader in data management, data analytics, data science and demonstrate your deep technical competency and interpersonal skills to drive business value and results.
  • Responsible for ensuring new data technologies and innovations are integrated into the organisation, advising and recommending data architecture strategies, decisions, processes, tools, standards and methodologies.

  • Data Warehousing, semantic layer definitions and scaled data consumption patterns.

  • Robust enterprise grade data integration, ingestion, management & pipelines.
  • Data streaming and associated ”Lambda” style data architectures.
  • Operationalisation of Data Science outcomes, including continuous model qualification.
  • Very Strong Experience of the following core Azure or equivalent Google data platform components, or very strong adjacent experience from other platforms.
  • Distributed compute technologies such as Data Bricks & Spark plus knowledge of underlying programmatic frameworks.
  • Modern data streaming technologies such as Kafka in association with Event Hubs.
  • Cloud Storage Technologies (Data Lake Store, Blob Storage, etc).
  • Azure DW/Synapse
  • Azure Functions and other adjacent data relevant components.
  • IaC / Automated delivery technology such as Azure DevOps, Terraform, Ansible, etc.
  • Azure Kubernetes Service or other Containerised delivery technology.
  • Workflow management technologies such as Apache Airflow.
  • Fluency with agile and DevOps methodology and automaton practices
  • Fluency with Data Streaming patterns and hybrid real-time / lambda integration.
  • Familiarity with Machine Learning, Data Science & AI Technologies.
  • Superb problem solving and outstanding communication skills with the ability to describe complex & abstract technical concepts to peers and engineers.
  • 15+ years’ total experience with at least 5 years of senior engineering leadership roles
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, other relevant subject area, or equivalent practical experience.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience building and operating GxP-regulated technology in Healthcare
  • Experience managing containers in Azure Kubernetes Service
  • Experience applying Agile Product Management- Scrum and SAFe methodologies
