EHS Lead - Commercial, Open to flexible working
This is an EHS Leadership role, accountable for providing the direction to, and governance of, EHS for the global Commercial organisation in GSK. You will develop and deploy relevant, fit for purpose, compliant and simple EHS service to Commercial, including oversight of their implementation of EHS standards, Global Safety Plans and annual objectives. Commercial safety will include a range of relevant EHS systems such as Life Saving Rules, Workplace Safety and ergonomics, driver safety etc. You’ll drive EHS risk management and continuous improvement opportunities. Working in partnership with Commercial leadership, you will seek consistency across all regions, focusing on people, performance and impact: doing the right thing for the safety of our people and those they influence.
As a leader, you will have a large global team of roughly 20 people. You will therefore need to develop talent both within and without this team, upskilling and empowering to create an exceptional global safety culture in Commercial. You’ll also sit on the EHS Leadership Team, contributing to and influencing the wider business EHS Strategy. As such, this position is an extremely visible and aspirational role, part of a wide matrix network and playing an instrumental role in the reduction of risk. Your success will directly impact the safety and health/wellbeing of people at work, as well as materially improving our impact on the environment and the people around us.
Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Strategic Leadership – Leading the EHS team and be a top-level executive adviser to the Commercial business in all relevant EHS matters.
- Ensuring the GSK EHS systems are applied and relevant for Commercial business partnering with Sr. EHS and Business Leaders to improve EHS performance and implement company EHS goals.
- Ensuring GSK meets expectations of regulators.
- Ensuring the EHS systems are suitable and adapted to new GSK
- Actively representing Commercial in EHS forums along with Commercial leaders.
- Ensuring all elevated EHS issues are appropriately escalated and resolved
In this role we need someone with excellent leadership, engagement and influencing skills. Combined with credibility and knowledge, you will thrive on getting the best out of others. In EHS you cannot always command change, meaning you will succeed through a deft influencing skill – flexing on your style and approach according to the situation. Safety is critical in all we do, so while you may get to take people on a transformative EHS risk reduction journey, at times you’ll also need the confidence and strength of character to hold people to account on their actions or inactions when it comes to keeping people safe. You will succeed through graceful articulation of the facts and purposeful delivery, managing your message to match your audience. It’s important to keep your EHS messaging relevant, engaging and clear; partnering with Commercial leaders, Compliance and your team to find EHS and business solutions, not barriers. There is a significant element of EHS strategy development involved in this role, as an active member of the EHS Leadership team. To be successful you must be an insightful and agile thinker, innovative, and maintain a continuous improvement/risk reduction mindset throughout.

Required Qualifications and experience:
- Degree level qualification in a Pharmaceutical, Scientific, EHS or Business-related discipline
- Demonstrable knowledge of EHS standards, systems, and practices
- Experience in a senior level role addressing compliance (such as EHS)
- Significant experience in a Commercial or EHS leadership role
- Demonstrated experience in people management – either direct or matrix management
- Experience of project and program management
- Experience in change management
Preferred Qualifications and experience:
- Masters level qualification in EHS or a Commercial-aligned discipline
- Experience in a senior EHS position
- Significant knowledge of EHS relating to ergonomics, driver safety, human factors and more.
