Wavespace Head of Operations - 12 month FTC, Open to flexible working

Wavespace is a global network of growth and innovation centres – EY’s vehicle for accelerating problem solving and co-creating solutions to our clients’ biggest challenges.

We are currently creating a purpose-built facility which will house a new flagship Wavespace for London in our More London Place headquarters, and a new home for 300 of our most innovative and creative people (“campus”).

We are searching for brilliant people to fill key roles in our Wavespace and campus crew.

The Head of Operations will own and manage the day to day operations of both the flagship Wavespace and the campus of which Wavespace is a part. This role reports to the Head of Campus & London Wavespace leader.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the Wavespace and Campus budgets and reporting requirements to UKI BD leader, Campus Steerco and Wavespace Joint Steerco, as appropriate
  • Work with the Head of Campus & London Wavespace leader, Head Facilitator, and Head of Client Experience & Commercial to build, develop and iterate the strategy, propositions and archetypes for the London flagship Wavespace
  • Contribute to the marketing, events programme and pipeline development
  • Frontline responsibility for the event qualification and pipeline process.  Works with Head of Campus & London Wavespace Leader and Head Facilitator to ensure that the Wavespace only delivers events which fulfil the acceptance criteria.
  • Work with Head of Client Experience and Commercial to develop and run the operational processes to support the smooth running of events and the centre. This includes (but not limited to) initial enquiry, proposal development and agreement, security and stewarding, emergency and contingency planning, and post-event evaluation
  • Acts as “right hand” to the Head of Campus & London Wavespace leader across both the Wavespace and the campus
  • Works behind the scenes to solve problems, mediate disputes, and deal with issues.  Knows when to sense check or escalate to the Head of Campus & London Wavespace leader.
  • Acts as a sounding board and trusted advisor to the Wavespace leadership. 
  • Manages the recruitment of new team members for both Wavespace and the campus
  • Significant contributor to the development and maintenance of an excellent culture across the campus, and to the change management processes for the launch of the campus as a whole
  • Acts as a “counsellor” (performance coach in EY terms) to a number of junior team members
  • Act a connector between teams, projects and opportunities across the campus, helping to realise efficiencies, share learnings and share resources.

Skills and Attributes for Success:

  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills are essential
  • Strong demonstrable Emotional Intelligence (EQ)
  • Demonstrated experience building strong cross functional working relationships within a matrix environment
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively, and with a wide range of team members and clients and ability to flex your approach and style for different audiences
  • Executive presence and credibility to communicate effectively with Partner and C-Suite level client stakeholders
  • Project management experience – able to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to manage people in the event and EY account teams to deliver successful events every time
  • Strong working knowledge of a professional services organization Confidence with ambiguity
  • Bias for action: can be counted on to deliver
  • Deep understanding of the key business and financial drivers that determine the firm's success – particularly our business development and go-to-market strategy
  • Strong coaching skills
  • A good understanding of Business Development
  • Change management and culture building experience a highly valued bonus

To qualify for the role you must have:

  • Extensive and proven experience of professional services and/or operations roles
  • Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal)
