We have an exciting opportunity to work in a fast paced, high performing cross-functional team as Global Medical / Scientific Director, Infectious disease.

The asset is a medicine in Phase 3 development for treating patients with antibiotic resistant uncomplicated urinary tract infections and gonorrhoea. The asset is a first in novel class of antibiotic with the potential to be an important oral treatment option for the treatment of antibiotic resistant infections in the community.

GSK is running a comprehensive Global Clinical Development programme, with both Phase 3 programs for the 2 indications being conducted in parallel, which started Q4, 2019. Anticipated launch in the USA is anticipated in 2023. This is an exciting and pivotal time to be joining the team. A well-executed medical affairs strategy will be critical in helping improve outcomes for patients. The Global Medical Affairs Director will play a key role in developing and implementing strategy, in close collaboration with markets.

To support our continuing stream of product launches and global medical affairs activities, we are looking to appoint a Global Medical / Scientific Director, reporting to the Global Medical Affairs Lead for Infectious Diseases.

Job Purpose

  • Drives opportunities to gather external and internal insights to shape our understanding of customer needs and evidence generation gaps.
  • Translates current and emerging evidence into content of value for internal and external audiences
  • Collaborates with R&D, country teams and other key cross-functional stakeholders to help shape and execute the medical affairs and launch plan
  • Develops a strong external network of global experts in uncomplicated urinary tract infection and gonorrhoea.
  • Drives development and execution of several global medical affairs strategies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partners with above-country and country colleagues to drive, integrate and prioritise insights to inform global medical affairs plans and life cycle strategy.
  • Engages with R&D, VEO, other disciplines, and country teams to identify evidence generation needs.
  • Ensures country medical affairs colleagues have a robust knowledge of the relevant and emerging clinical evidence, supporting their training by creating high quality scientific engagement materials for both internal and external use.
  • Develops external scientific communication content on uncomplicated urinary tract infection and gonorrhoea specific topics, using innovative and diverse channels of communication.
  • Partnering with commercial colleagues to develop brand campaigns and support launch.  
  • Developing and approving promotional, non-promotional and training materials. 
  • Partners with key countries to help implement scientific communication strategy and launches, including reviewing and optimising local medical affairs plans and sharing learning/ best practice/ intelligence.
  • Drives excellence in external engagement with key stakeholders (e.g. HCP’s, Patients, Payors and Regulators) globally and in partnership with key countries.
  • Ensures appropriate medical governance oversight of all deliverables.
  • Reviewing local GSK-sponsored and Investigator Sponsored Study (ISS) proposals to assess their scientific merit and strategic need.
  • Develops deep subject matter expertise on the product and therapy area

Qualifications:

  • MD / MBBS, PharmD or PhD with specialism in Infectious Disease
  • Considerable experience in Medical Affairs including pre/peri launch.
  • Country specific aswell as above country medical affairs experience
  • Previous industry experience in infectious disease
  • Robust understanding of internal (where applicable) and external promotional codes of practice and regulations
  • Demonstrated matrix leadership in previous roles and leadership of complex projects
