Investigator (Protein Biochemist), Open to flexible working
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a highly skilled and motivated protein biochemist investigator with a passion for protein purifcation and isolation to join the Department of Protein and Cell Sciences at GSK’s Medicines Research Centre in Stevenage (PCS UK). As an experienced Protein Biochemist you will be responsible for the generation and isolation of novel proteins and protein complexes and will have experience working with membrane proteins. In your role you will work in close partnership with drug discovery experts and you will be interested in looking for novel solutions to purify and isolate proteins. You will be self-motivated with a strong interest in protein expression and purification and the ideal candidate for this role will have skills in: construct design, protein expression, purification, and analysis. You will be good at multi-tasking and be capable of good experimental record-keeping, with excellent written and oral communication skills. An ability to work towards agreed timelines and effectively organise work will be considered a key asset of the successful applicant.

Qualifications & Skills:
We are looking for professionals with these required skills to achieve our goals:
- A background in a biological or biochemical sciences discipline, PhD level or equivalent
- Extensive experience of expression and purification of proteins from a range of expression systems.
- Experience of purification of protein complexes and membrane proteins
- Knowledge of protein isolation from endogenous systems
- Thorough knowledge of protein analytical and biophysical characterisation techniques
- A keen awareness of emerging protein science trends
- A demonstrated ability to identify and embed new methodologies
- Track record of flexibility and team work.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Good record keeping skills.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills:
If you have the following characteristics, it would be a plus:
- Experience with mammalian and insect cell culture, transfection and expression techniques
- Experience with molecular biology design and protein generation.
- Strong data handling skills
