Senior Area Manager (Housing & Land) x2, Open to flexible working

The Greater London Authority [GLA] is a unique city government for Greater London supporting the directly elected Mayor and scrutinised by the elected London Assembly. The Mayor has responsibility for an annual investment of c£500m to increase genuinely affordable housing for Londoners and a portfolio of land across the GLA family that can come forward for housing delivery.

We are seeking a proactive and self-motivated Senior Area Manager to join the Housing and Land Directorate to help deliver the strategic priorities of the Mayor’s Housing Strategy, the Housing and Land business plan and the London Plan.

We need an individual who is skilled in building effective working relationships able to provide impartial, solution focussed advice to senior decision makers to inform their decisions and operate effectively in a political environment. The role involves close working with London boroughs and Housing Associations to align their affordable housing delivery with Mayoral housing priorities and boost overall housing delivery.

You will be responsible for proactively managing a portfolio of investment partners, ensuring contracts are closely monitored and home building programmes are delivered on time and on budget. You will have experience of managing projects through the partner procurement and delivery cycle.  You will be able to demonstrate how you can support the Mayor's aspirations for housing design quality.

You will understand the planning and construction process, have a keen understanding of development viability, be aware of different commercial drivers and incentives. Be comfortable making commercial decisions, aware of the direct impact on GLA business; financially, politically and economically.

You will understand the strategies of local authority partners and the business plans of development partners, using such knowledge to define and deliver relevant projects primarily in the current 2016-22 Affordable Homes Programme and other funds such as the Housing Infrastructure Fund.

You will also provide leadership to a team of area managers working across the housing and land portfolios. You will be able to demonstrate the capacity to take strategic responsibility on behalf of your Head of Area for managing relationships with partners and leading functional aspects of the business such as land projects, industrial intensification and investment planning. You will be able to demonstrate the ability to influence and co-produce investment strategies with partners and demonstrate how you have provided strategic guidance and decision-making capacity around projects and programme delivery.

This role will be based at London Fire Brigade’s Head Office (Union Street SE1 0LL)
